MATERIAL GUIDE

Our jewelry selections are made from solid gold, 925 sterling silver, gold vermeil, semi-precious stones and pearl.  Whether you need a new piece to refresh your look or looking for a special gift, our material guide will help you find the best materials for your jewelry and piercings.

925 sterling silver has a bright and shiny finish that is ideal for delicate and fine designs. The simplicity of its appearance makes it truly versatile as well as affordable. However, incorrect storage may cause the sterling silver tarnish over time. It’s recommended to store your sterling silver jewelry separately in the jewelry box. If your jewelry has a light tarnish try a silver polishing cloth. You could also try gentle toothpaste or mix baking soda and water and wrap the silver jewelry in aluminum foil for a few minutes, then gently wipe to reveal a polished surface. The transformation is amazing!

Gold vermeil (pronounced ver-may) jewelry is a great alternative to solid gold jewelry. Gold vermeil has a base made of 925 sterling silver with a thick layer (at least 2.5 microns ) of 14k-24k gold outside. This material works great for sensitive skin without hurting your wallet. Since the jewelry is not entirely solid gold it might eventually tarnish as the gold plating wears off over time; but proper care will extend its lifespan. To avoid rubbing off the layer of gold, we recommend you to not use a jewelry brush on gold vermeil pieces when cleaning them.  If you would like to clean your gold vermeil jewelry, wash it with a small amount of soft liquid soap and warm water. Rinse it well and carefully dry it on a cloth.

Solid Gold jewelry is the most valuable form of jewelry you can buy. Purity of gold is expressed as carats or karats. 24k gold is known to be 99.9% pure. However, 24k gold is very yellow in color and soft in texture that scratches easily. Therefore, gold is often mixed with other metals to make it more durable for the purpose of wearing it as jewelry. Gold jewelry requires less maintenance and is made to last a lifetime. Only clean your gold jewelry with soap and warm water as needed.  To keep its shine, you should soak your gold jewelry pieces for 2-3 hours and then scrub them gently with a very soft brush. Rinse it well under clean water and blot dry with a soft cloth.

Quality pearls are very durable. Real gems such as pearls are formed by nature and will always have some sort of imperfection, if you look close enough. Real pearls are delicate and require proper care. To keep your pearls looking gorgeous, wear them semi-often! This is because pearls were originally born in the water and benefit from absorbing the oils that your skin naturally secretes throughout the day. We recommend you keeping them away from cosmetics and acidic materials. Gently wipe pearls with a soft cloth to remove sweat, perfume, excess oils or dirt before storing.

The extremely delicate nature of Herringbone chain requires special care. Since the chain segments are both thin and flat, pulling the chain a bit harder can bend or twist it. In general, you should be careful when you wear your herringbone necklace or bracelet. Do not wear your herringbone chains to sleep, shower or exercise. These types of activities may add undue stress to the chain which can lead to bent or kinked links. Do not hang any additional charms or pendants from the chain. This may add too much weight to the center of the chain and cause misshapen links.

Extra note: Do not use a paper towel or tissue to polish your jewelry, as these can scratch your jewelry. Store pieces separately, this prevents jewelry from tangling or scratching each other.
